No matter how prepared people are with their shopping list, being caught in the Christmas rush is quite inevitable. People usually have very long lists of items that need to be ticked off and obviously only very little time to do all the shopping because doing it after work only gives just a few hours of mall time.  Also, thinking of what to give to relatives and friends could pose a challenge, because of their varied tastes. To avoid giving similar gifts from the past year, even giving the same thing all over again is one of the most challenging tasks while coming down on one’s list too.

Shopping for gifts as early as a few weeks before December helps in trimming down the long list of things to buy. Shopping whenever there is a chance also helps ease some stress before the rush comes in. Another thing that helps is knowing the people on the Christmas list very well, because it would be easier to think of gifts that they really want or need, for work or in their homes. Asking for wish lists is another thing to practice nowadays. The people on the receiving end would feel special and loved after they tear apart the wrappers, revealing something they have been wanting or needing for the longest time.

The world’s leading manufacturer of consumer appliances, Midea suggests some gift ideas that may be options on somebody’s Christmas list.  Midea only offers home solutions that make every household task easy and surprisingly user-friendly. Midea has a wide range of appliances that would best fit any holiday kitchen set-up or theme of any home.

Midea Push Button Induction Cooker

The first one on Midea’s suggested gift items this Christmas is its Induction Cooker. It fits right for family and friends who are condo-dwellers. It is safe around children with its flameless heating function and Auto Safety shut off feature which automatically cools off the cooker. It cooks 40% faster than a conventional electric stove and this Quick Cooking locks in the nutrients in the food for heathier cooking. It also saves 37% on electrical consumption compared to other conventional electric stoves. It would be great if those who will get this as a gift will cook next year’s Christmas feast with it.

Midea Microwave (30L Mechanical)

For those people who are always on the go, it would be beneficial for them to get Midea’s lineup of Mechanical and Digital Microwave Ovens as gifts for Christmas. Not only could it cook food in seconds, its quick cooking feature is very health-friendly as it retains most nutrients in food. And at the same time, people consume 10% less fat compare to conventional frying. Midea’s microwave ovens are also energy-saving appliances because it only uses up Php 1 worth of electricity for 3 minutes of cooking.

Midea Pressure Cooker

If somebody is feeling more generous, they could give Midea’s Digital Multi Cooker / Pressure Cooker as a gift to their relatives or friends who are in love with cooking. It easily cooks all the toughest ingredients to perfection. With its Thermal Circulation Technology, it ensures the even distribution of heat in the pot which cooks every ingredient evenly. Its very user-friendly 12 pre-programmed functions also cut out the work for everyone in a very busy kitchen. It operates with 7 levels of pressure for quick cooking which locks in all the nutrients in the food for heathier eating. And Midea’s 10-Dimensional Protection System ensures safety during cooking. It would be a very helpful kitchen help during the Christmas feast and for other celebrations.

Giving gifts that are useful and home-friendly solutions to the people who matter in one’s life may be the best thing to offer this season of giving and Midea extends its giving hand to its customers by helping them out this season and for any other occasion.

It is now possible to get these home solutions at their doorsteps. Midea home solutions could be bought online through their retail partners— Abensons and Robinsons. This definitely takes away the challenge of lugging items on the way home.

We understand that most of us always get caught up in the Christmas rush, especially when all the bazaars pop up and Christmas sale offers go mad with their prices,” Phillip Trapaga, General Manager of Midea said. “What we want to gift to our consumers this season is the joy in giving and knowing that they have given a home solution to their loved ones. And I think that makes the gesture more beautiful. Plus, they could shop through the internet which helps them avoid a tedious shopping experience.”

Live life to the fullest. – that’s one of the mantras that I live by as I go on with my journey that we call, life. For sure, many of you would agree that we really should live our life to the fullest - savor the moment, enjoy the day-to-day pleasure, appreciate small things and have a taste of almost everything! More so, traveling would lead you to taste the culture and when I say taste the culture, it is more of tasting what a certain location or place has to offer. The native delicacy, exploring and discovering the food of the locals. Thus, booking a hotel accommodation in Cebu, for example, that includes breakfast is a plus for me. Simply because, it already gives me a glimpse of what I should look forward as I go on exploring the vicinity

Welcome to Cebu! // Lapu-lapu Shrine
Oh… having danggit paired with garlic rice for breakfast is heaven; Cebu lechon or most commonly known as Cebuchon for lunch is something to look forward to after visiting the historic destinations in the city such as the Magellan’s cross, the century old churches, the stunning view at TOPS, among others; and munching on some dried mangoes for afternoon snack is superb! Oh, how I miss you, Cebu! Come at night, enjoy the sparkling scenic view of the city through Sky Adventure.

Yes, when traveling, it is a positive attribute that we also interested to immense ourselves on one’s culture. Act like a local, eat like a local and live like a local. There’s nothing to worry though because most people that we meet along the way are friendly and kind. Meanwhile, here’s are the must-try foods when going to Cebu, kindly read on and indulge yourself. I warn you though that this post might make you want to go to Cebu the soonest possible. By the way, I’ll be there in January so I’m hoping to see you there and let’s do food tripping.

Lechon Cebu

Handaan or gatherings in the Philippines wouldn’t be complete without lechon. Lechon is a young pig stuffed with a secret mix of spices and herbs, skewered on a bamboo pole and roasted whole over hot coals.

Whenever friends or love ones are in Cebu, what I always tell them to bring is danggit! And Cebu is known for this dish! It is a salted, sun-dried rabbitfish which are abundant and native to the island’s lower waters. The fish is split open, cleaned, salted, and spread out on drying racks under the sun. It is best to consume during breakfast paired with garlic rice, egg, and atsara or with a vinegar and chili dip on the side.

It is a raw, cubed fish in a vinegar-based dressing with garnishes of garlic, onions, ginger and chili that is usually eaten as an appetizer. Kinilaw sa Tanigue, a local mackerel, is one of the known kinilaws due to its freshness.

Bam-i is a stir-friend Cebuano noodle dish that used both eggs and bean thread noodles. It is rich and filling with its base of noodles plus 10 or more ingredients comprising meat, poultry, seafood, vegetables, herbs and a local mushroom called tengang daga (rat’s ear) because of how it looks like.

Budbud Pilit

What’s for an afternoon snack? Try out Budbud, a rice cake snack or dessert wrapped in banana leaves. Pilit means “to stick” which refers to the variety of glutinous rice that used in Budbud Pilit. It is composed of rice cake, coconut milk, sugar and salt, and cooked over low heat before being wrapped in banana leaves on which leaves a distinct aroma to the dish after steaming.

So, what are you going to try first? I’m excited to know and tell how’s the experience. See yah!

Hausgemachter Leberkase // Homemade Meat Loaf with potato salad and pretzel.

It was Friday afternoon with a gloomy weather but who cares, it’s Friday and should be spent wisely! Thus, spending the night with my blogger friends in the comfort of great and authentic German foods was worthy enough to stay longer despite of traffic and possible floods on the way home.

A new bakery slash restaurant opens in the heart of Makati Central Business District to offer a great fare of authentic German cuisines and pastries. Well, I am talking about Wagner German Bakery which is located at Ground Floor of Two Central Building, Valero St., Makati City. Wagner German Bakery serves authentic German dishes plus serving the food incorporating its culture. Stepping inside the restaurant made you feel like you are in an Octoberfest celebration due to the way staffs dressed up. Plus, I had a chance to used one of their coveted hand-made stone mug! Best mug ever for beers! I know, beer-lovers you got to agree with me on this.

The restaurant has this cozy ambiance, neat, and the wonderful smell of breads would delight your nose to make your visit even more interesting. The wooden tables and chairs elegantly placed on the right corners that give justice to its space. The walls are painted white with some interesting decors – Olga and Angelo’s certificates are also mounted in the wall. By the way, they’re the chefs of Wagner German Bakery.

What enticed me upon entering the restaurant were the big pretzels on the counter top! They look so yummy and that was my first time to eat a real pretzel – not that sweet and very different of the usual pretzels available in the Philippines which are mostly sweetened and flavored. Of course, Wagner German Bakery’s breads are best paired with coffee. Speaking of culture, in Germany coffee is served in a steel tray with a placemat then a cup of coffee and a small glass of water with a teaspoon on top of it. So, yeah dining at Wagner German Bakery would also gives you a glimpse of what Germans usually do.

What I loved and liked about this restaurant was that, everything they serve was made from their kitchen. Thus, it only deals with freshness and of good quality ingredients. And the serving is good for sharing. I was already full and was like in a food coma when I thought that we’re already done with our eating adventure but truly, the best is save for last! By far, Wagner German Bakery had the best pistachio gelato in town. Guys, it is a must-try!

So for now, let me indulge you of what this authentic German restaurant can offer. Enjoy!

Think: mouthwatering Adobo and an appetite for friendly fun. The Datu Puti Adobo Movement is cooking up an exciting lineup of challenges and events to support its thrust to get Adobo its due accolade. Part of this gastronomic lineup of events is the Adobo Challenge, Datu Puti’s search for the best version of the Adobo among a lineup of budding food entrepreneurs.

The Datu Puti Adobo Movement was initially created to push for Adobo to be our pambansang ulam. It is a movement that celebrates the cultural heritage of the Adobo dish. According to the Datu Puti Adobo Movement, all Filipinos across the regions have their own take on the dish, inspired by how the traditional comfort food is prepared by their families based on the their flavor preferences and their access to local ingredients.

Friendly Competition

The Datu Puti Adobo Challenge represents the next phase in the Datu Puti Adobo Movement. After the warm response to the advocacy in 2015, 2016’s Datu Puti Adobo Challenge is poised to drive more enthusiasm and sustain support for the cult fave dish. More specifically, the Datu Puti Adobo Challenge dares Mercato Centrale’s food vendors to stake their claim for the best Adobo dish in town.

To qualify, the vendor’s adobo dish must use any type of meat or vegetable, and marinated in or cooked with at least two of the three main Datu Puti products: vinegar, soy sauce, and patis (fish sauce). Accepted entries will be evaluated based on the various criteria, including: creativity of concept, which looks at the story behind the dish as well as originality, branding, and cooking technique; innovation, noting the use of unique special ingredients and Datu Puti products; and Philippine culinary heritage, including how it adopts and represents regional cooking styles.

Celebrating Adobo’s Best Mercato Centrale’s finest vendors will showcase their Adobo recipes at a gastronomic showdown at the Mercato Central Saturday market in Bonifacio Global City on June 11, 2016, the culmination of the Datu Puti Adobo Challenge.

Join the Movement on June 11 and enjoy the taste fest during the Datu Puti Adobo Challenge. Rate sheets will be tallied based on the sampling served to a select pool of judges. Then, at the end of the Datu Puti Adobo Challenge, three winners will be declared, taking into the account the flavor, story, and heart behind their Adobo masterpieces. In addition, a People’s Choice Award will also be given to the crowd favorite, based on the preferences of the foodies on site.

All Adobo winners will be awarded start-up funds in cash, so they can include their winning dishes in their regular Mercato menu for at least 12 nights. The People’s Choice awardee, on the other hand, will receive over Php 3,000 worth of Datu Puti goods.

Adobo Party

Aside from the Datu Puti Adobo Challenge, the celebrations at Mercato Centrale on June 11 will also feature a celebration of homegrown talent, all in full support of the advocacy behind the Adobo Movement. The party will be hosted by familiar foodie Tonipet Gaba, and the feast will be made even more festive with musical performances by musical idols UpDharma Down and Ebe Dancel

Drop by Mercato Centrale (along 7th avenue and 25th street, across The Forum and in front of the “Between the Lines” art mural) in BGC Taguig on June 11, Saturday, to witness a showdown and showcase of the best of the best of our homegrown talents onstage and behind kitchen doors.

See you there!

I love tea. Tea is always my go-to-drink whenever I need something to drink on whatever feeling that I have. There’s always a perfect tea for me for that perfect moment. Well, at the office, I always store several teas on my pedestal and of different flavors – Twinings of London in Chamomile & Lipton Green Tea Clean & Clear. I take Lipton Green Tea for my upset stomach or if I ate too much and just wanted to cool down. To feel relax and sooth my senses Twining of London Herb & Infusion Teas are the best companion. My current favorite is the Lemon & Ginger. Well, they are all natural and caffeine-free herbal tea with an invigorating blend of lemon and ginger perfect for relaxing and refreshing as ginger is known for its warming effect.

Of course, I love tasting different variants of tea and expect more of it here in thefoodtrippers. By the way, having a cup of tea after meal time is always the best. It has a lot of health benefits and loaded with antioxidants and nutrients that have powerful effects on the body. Health benefits also includes improved brain function, losing weight, among others. So, have your tea every single day!
